The new Asus Zenfone 5Z with "top-notch" is Overtly Top Notch

As widely rumoured, Asus has introduced its 2018 flagship smartphone for the year, the Zenfone 5Z at the ongoing MWC 2018 conference at Barcelona, Spain. The handset comes alongside its less-powerful variant, the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5 Lite.

Zenfone 5Z with notch

Sure, Apple didn’t have any sort of official presence at this year’s MWC, but this was the week the iPhone X really came into its own. The company’s premium flagship was everywhere in spirit, through the design choices from the competition. For some it was the mere legitimization of the notch — for others, the inspiration was a bit more unabashed.

Asus Zenfone 5Z will be made available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colour variant and has a completely new design as compared to its older series siblings. The smartphone boasts of a 6.2-inch FullHD+ IPS display with 19:9 aspect ratio, which is even more than that of the Galaxy S9. Interestingly it has a familiar iPhone X - like 'Notch' on top of the screen, which may be a deal breaker for many.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, the device also has 8GB RAM and 256GB inbuilt storage.

The Android 8.0 Oreo (ZenUI 5.0) based handset features a 12MP Sony IMX 363 rear camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The secondary camera has a 120-degree wide angle lens with aperture f/2.2. At the front you get an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The front camera also supports Face Unlock feature. At the back you get a fingerprint sensor as well.

On the connectivity front, the Dual-SIM supporting smartphone includes GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC and others. The firm has also used dual 5-magnet speakers to enhance the content viewing experience. Backed by a 3300mAh battery, the Zenfone 5Z supports ASUS BoostMaster and AI charging tech.

Asus Zenfone 5 specifications

The Zenfone 5 has nearly the same set of specifications as the Zenfone 5Z except for the processor, RAM and the storage. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, clubbed with 4GB RAM or 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage.

Asus Zenfone 5 Lite specifications

As for the least powerful Zenfone 5 Lite, the smartphone has a slightly smaller 6-inch FullHD+ IPS display with lesser screen-to-body ratio. Running Android Oreo based ZenUI 5.0, the smartphone comes in two variants based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and Snapdragon 630 processor. The device also comes in two versions based on 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage.
There are two cameras at the back. While the primary 16MP sensor has f/2.2 aperture, the secondary camera has 80-degree FOV. At the front you get two more cameras, one with 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor and the other sporting an 8MP sensor with 120-degree wide lens. It has the same battery as the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5Z.

Now you can whisper to Alexa

Amazon’s Alexa can now listen and respond to whispers, and she will whisper back. Now first, this might set off another wave of anxiety for privacy advocates. Your virtual assistant is not only spying on you and potentially recording or storing your conversations, now she can do even if you tried to keep your voice down. Amazon’s team just made that sensitive microphone function even more acutely. Video demonstrating Alexa whisper: So, why do we need to whisper in the first place? Will it come handy in anyway? Yes. If you whisper, “Echo, play a lullaby,” for the infant who’s almost asleep in your arms, Echo will whisper back, “Here’s a station for lullabies from your Amazon Music library,” instead of screaming at  full startling volume. What's more? Whisper is not the only important feature that will come to Amazon Echo devices this year, we also have bunch of new ones. Guard : Guard will let you say, “Alexa, I’m leaving,” and the device will automatically acti...

Microsoft Edge Arrived for Android and iOS

Last week, Microsoft made a pretty surprising announcement. The company revealed that it would bring its Edge browser to iOS and Android, making it easier for existing Edge users (and possible converts) to take their browsing history, bookmarks, and other data with them. Now the beta app is available for download from the Play Store for some countries. But others can download the APK to give it a try. So how is the browser itself? Well, it feels like a mix of desktop Edge and mobile Chrome. The start page has your frequently-visited pages with a search bar, along with stories from MSN below that (which you can turn off). The UI is split into an address bar and Reading List/History/Bookmarks button at the top, and everything else at the bottom. Both bars pull away as you scroll down the page, and re-appear when you swipe up. Familiar Microsoft Edge features like the Hub allow users to organize the web in a way that cuts through the clutter, making it easier to find, view and manage thei...
